The purpose of this study was to derive implications for future educational sites and follow-up research by finding and analyzing how instructors with an understanding of survival swimming perceive elementary survival swimming education. To this end, among those who have obtained the qualification for survival swimming guidance with public confidence, their experience in guiding or encountering survival swimming classes in elementary schools was conveniently sampled by leaders. And through interviews with four study participants, meaningful parts were investigated in depth. Survival swimming instructors were aware of the limitations of elementary survival swimming education in three aspects. First, elementary school survival swimming education procedures and instructors are inappropriately selected. Second, the contents of elementary survival swimming education and teaching and learning methods are conducted separately without basis, and no evaluation and recording of classes are conducted. Third, elementary survival swimming education is currently ineffective, and problems have occurred in various aspects, requiring improvement. Accordingly, a study on the current status of survival swimming education in elementary schools nationwide in Korea and a specific follow-up study that distinguishes professional survival swimming from non-professional survival swimming are needed.
