The purpose of this study is to compare the literary world of a British poet Alfred Edward Housman(1859-1936) and a Korean poet Park Yong-cheol(1904-1938). This paper examines the influence and value of the two and I would like to confirm through a comparative study with Park Yong-cheol that the world of Hausman’s works and the theory of poetry, which is relatively less well known than contemporary poets, has influenced modern Korean literature since the 1930s. This paper was based on the fact that Housman, the only poet of the time to find research results in the English literary world and in Korea, and Park Yong-cheol, a critic, English translator, and literary activist, share something in poetry and the subject matter is in common. Beyond the spatial gap between the West and the East, the two lived in the same era, and expressed their passion for life in poetry under the themes of ‘Inner Loss’ and ‘Recovery’ and, eventually this paper would like to prove the results of this study that the two poets present their self-reliance and positive thoughts through their lives and works.
