This study investigates the effects of Pilates‐based core-strengthening exercise on muscle activity in middle-aged women. The participants were eight middle-aged women who had been participating in the Pilates‐based core-strengthening exercise for at least 3 years. The exercise effectiveness was investigated by comparing kinematic muscle activity during Pilates positions. The Noraxon electromyography (EMG) system was used. Muscle activity was analyzed and compared among AB prep, Hundred, BSP, Beat, side lift, and side leg lift. The results showed that first, AB Prep uses the Rectus Abdominis Lo and External Oblique approximately 60–70% and 30–40% as much as the Rectus Abdominis up, respectively. Second, Hundred uses the Rectus Abdominis Lo muscles the most. Third, BSP uses the LT Throracic ES and RT Thoracic ES the most. Fourth, Beat uses the LT Semitend and RT Semitend the most. Fifth, Side lift mainly uses the lateral muscles of the lower limbs, with the LT Semitend and RT Semitend muscles being the most used. Sixth, the LT Adductors and RT Semitend showed the greatest activity during Side leg lift. The results of this study can be used as basic data for Pilates‐based core-strengthening exercise, which helps middle-aged women to attain their desired body shape by increasing muscle activity. Moreover, this study also provides academic evidence for the importance of muscle-strength training.
