In this study, high school students’ decision-making styles have been investigated as a part of basic research for biology teaching and learning which can promote students' rational decision-making ability in bioethical issues. To examine students' decision-making styles, revised version of Harren's Assessment of Career Decision Making (ACDM) was used. The subjects of this study were 1,065 high school students (583 boys and 482 girls) in Geonggi Province. Major findings of the this study can be summarized as follows. Comparing the means of the three decision-making styles in total students, the means were the highest in rational style and the lowest in dependent style. And the higher score students got in rationality, the lower score they made in intuitive power (p<0.01). It was also shown that the dependent style did not have any apparent relationship with the rational and the intuitive styles. Comparing the decision-making styles by gender, it was found that the girls were more rational (t=-3.479, p<0.01) and less dependent (t=2.384, p<0.05) than the boys. No apparent difference has been found among students by academic system(science and liberal arts). Significant differences in decision-making style among students by grade have been found. According to the result, students got higher score in rational style with higher grades (F=6.746, p<0.01), and juniors got higher score in dependent style compared to freshmen and seniors (F=7.454, p< 0.01), while there seems to be no apparent difference in the intuitive decision-making style.
