Recently, there has been a growing interest in Maritime Intelligent Transportation System (M-ITS), which is based on information and communication technology of vessel operation in Korea and abroad. In the marine intelligent transportation system, it is very important to collect real-time vessel location and operating information, and in particular, the system of real-time vessel monitoring is required to respond quickly to marine accidents. The Korean government is supplying V-Pass equipment, which is a positioning devise of fishing vessel, to the offshore fishing vessels in order to respond quickly to marine accidents of fishing vessels. Currently, V-Pass equipment is installed and operated in about 66,000 ships of the coastal offshore fishing vessels. The V-Pass equipment is capable of real-time collection of various information such as illegal fishing monitoring of fishing vessels, calculation of annual fishing hours, information on vessel arrivals and departures, as well as location information of vessels for emergency rescue operations in the case of disasters, crises and accidents. This study tests the reliability of the currently installed and operating V-Pass equipment data. In addition, this study will identify the occurrence, types and causes of V-Pass data errors and suggest ways to improve the system reliability, and suggest ways to expand the usability of V-Pass data. .
