The purpose of this study is to investigate early childhood educators’ perceptions of and the need for traditional Korean dance classes in early childhood education. To this end, a survey was conducted on 285 early childhood educators and the specific results were as follows: First, the examination of early childhood educators’ perceptions of traditional Korean dance education revealed that surveyed educators strongly perceived the need for traditional Korean dance education during early childhood and believed that this education could help enhance children’s abilities to express themselves. Second, regarding early childhood educators’ need for Korean dance education, the respondents expressed the strongest need for educational content centered on thinking and expressing one’s thoughts regarding a given topic, and also placed emphasis on basic and locomotor dance movements. In summation, early childhood educators had an overall high-level perception of traditional Korean dance classes in early childhood education. Notably, the educators were focused on the benefits of this education in terms of improving self-expression, but lacked the perception of Korean dance as a traditional cultural aspect.
