Adolescents are required to make detailed practical preparations for their futures so that they can determine their career paths and prepare for entry into society based on careful self-reflection. Older generations should help younger people to acquire the basic attitudes required of members of society by supporting their development of self-esteem and providing information on potential careers. The responsibility for this should be assumed not only by schools, but by local communities in general. This article analyzed the Fourth Gong National Museum School (hereafter, "GNMS") for high school students to see whether museum education programs can promote high school students" socialization and the building of a career identity.
The study revealed that the GNMS helped young participants identity areas of interest, career identities, and paths. This means that a museum can function as an institution for career education. It is true that job shadowing and in-school art and cultural programs alone cannot satisfy the needs of high school students. Local communities should also provide opportunities that allow diverse experience to the youth who are the future of our nation. In this regard, the Free Learning Semester programs currently being operated for middle school students should be expanded in scope to include high school students as well.
This study also found that those who volunteered as youth docents improved their self-confidence, one of the subordinate concepts of socialization, through communication with visitors. Fellowships with museum staff also positively affected their interpersonal relations. Volunteer activities such as youth decent programs are proven here to help foster socialization since they promote the socialization process of the youth by reinforcing their adaptation to society.
