Gwangju Uprising became an opportunity to succeed to and develop the tradition of the peoples uprising that have always been in our history. It confirmed the fact that citizens are the power of history by emerging the peoples to the front face of the history. To succeed to the sprit of Gwangju Uprising, we need to collect and arrange materials related to the event and deliver them to our descendent so that they may not consider this as a usual historical event. Accordingly, Gwangju Uprising related materials stored in 4 institutions were investigated in this article. Those categories were not restricted to subjects in specific fields. Instead, they handled wide range of subjects substantially. The content and types of the materials were diversified. It is mainly because Gwangju Uprising has macro and inclusive characteristics and various literatures are published based on detailed and diversified studies. In other words, Gwangju Uprising is not restricted to a certain field only It is transformed into a total recognition by approaching all subject fields.
Looking into the types of Gwangru Uprising related materials, there are pamphlets, articles, books, serials, sound recording, video recording, CD, scraps and electronic resources. 10 main classes were selected, after being classified by subject and compared with subjects of KDC. The main class were divided into 10 divisions respectively and each division was divided into 10 sub-divisions. The details of classification is described and proposed in this article.
